Three Senior Student-Athletes Named 2022 Athena Award Winners
South Washington County Schools (SoWashCo Schools) is excited to announce this year’s Athena Award winners. The award recognizes young women for their excellence and achievements in athletics and academics. Presented by the St. Paul Athena Awards Program, this recognition is named after the goddess of wisdom and skills, Athena.
Representing SoWashCo Schools is Maddie Poor from East Ridge High School, Megan Maloney from Park High School and Carley Tuman from Woodbury High School.
Maddie Poor is the captain of the East Ridge High School soccer team. She is a four-year athletics letter winner and an All-Conference athlete for soccer. Maddie is also a four-year academic letter winner and is involved with her community through volunteering with Little Raptors Soccer Camp, Minnesota Resource Connection, Minnesota Thunder Academy and Community Thread.
Megan Maloney is a two-sport athlete at Park High School. She serves as the captain of both the soccer and lacrosse teams where she earned a combined five letters. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Leaders of the Pack and Spanish Club. Megan has earned three academic letters and is part of the National Society of High School Scholars. Outside of school, she volunteers at a local homeless shelter, women’s center, Feed My Starving Children, youth soccer clinics and her church.
Carley Tuman is a three-sport athlete at Woodbury High School. She serves as the captain of the tennis, hockey and lacrosse teams, earned a combined seven athletic letters and received All-Conference honors for both hockey and lacrosse. Carley has also received three academic letters and magna cum laude honors. She is involved in her community through volunteering as a Be My Eyes Interpreter, a youth hockey coach and a youth lacrosse coach.
